Meanwhile the Halifax house price index for December shows a fall of 2.2 per cent for the month. Year of year figures showed prices have dropped 16.2 per cent, bringing prices down to a level last seen in August 2004. The Halifax believes that house prices will continue to fall for some time as continuing pressures on income and the lack of mortgage finance will exert ‘a downward pressure’ on the market.
